Dwayne Johnson, known by many as The Rock, is famous for his physique and wrestling reputation. While appearing in one of Oprah’s Master Class episodes, he showed a side of him that is almost vulnerable. He is considered, by many, as one of the biggest WWE superstars in history; his popularity led him to become one of the top box office draws in wrestling history. He gained popularity as an actor after appearing in the Fast and Furious franchise. In 2013, Johnson was named the top-grossing actor of the year by Forbes. Johnson co-authored an autobiography published in 2000 that debuted at number 1 on The New York Times Best Seller list and remained on the list for several weeks.
It’s hard to imagine The Rock being depressed, but there was a time in his life when he felt very low. Johnson was 23 when his football dreams fade away as he was not drafted by the NFL and was cut from the Canadian Football League. He moved back to his parent’s apartment and describes the time there as “ 6 weeks of cleaning”.

Depression and staying in the apartment for that long led to a life-changing decision for him, he made the decision to start wrestling. Johnson came from a family of wrestlers; both his dad and grandfather had wrestled before.
I wish I had someone at that time who could just pull me aside and [say], ‘Hey, it’s gonna be OK. It’ll be OK.
When you acknowledge that you are not the first nor the last to go through any hardship; be it depression, heartbreak, anxiety or grief, helps you better cope with the situation. Knowing you’re not alone makes it easier to ask for help. The Rock put it best in one of his tweets: “The hardest thing sometimes is asking for help, I wish I did. you’re never alone, speak up !”
