To Reduce Depression: Educate Yourself
Deciding to turn your days around from the constant sadness and low mood to days when you enjoy the little things and smile take courage and effort but more importantly it takes commitment. Educating yourself in your own emotional and thinking patterns allows you to better change those patterns and act in a much healthier way. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is one of the most effective methods of treating depression, studies have found it to be at least as effective as medication for mild to moderate depression. When combined with medications it is a great alternative for those with major depression since it reduces the chances of relapse. Learning to live in the moment is something we all thrive for; the “here and now”. CBT is different than many traditional therapies since it works more on the way a person thinks rather than why they think that way.
So your 1 thing to do today? Start educating yourself. Learn to recognize your negative thought patterns and get the skills needed to better cope with life; things that bring you pleasure and help you solve your problems. You can do this on your own or look for a CBT therapist to help you on the process, whichever you choose, JUST DO IT!
