To be happier: Eat your fruits and veggies!
We all grew up listening to our parents say “eat your veggies, you’ll grow big and strong”. But did you know that fruits and vegetables benefit not only your physical well-being but your mental well-being too? Eating well can actually help you be happier!
Andrew Oswald, a professor at the University of Warwick observed the benefits of fruits and vegetables. He observed an increase in happiness as a result of an increase in fruit and vegetable intake. From these results he concluded that increasing your daily intake of fruits and vegetables by up to 8 servings will cause you to be significantly happier! The final results were not observed for two years; however, people that participated in the study noticed an immediate increase of their overall life satisfaction. While scientists have not discovered why fruits and vegetables make you happier, they believe it is due to the nutrients they contain. Research suggests that increased serotonin production is linked to a high intake of B vitamins which are found in Brussels sprouts, spinach, and oranges.
Therefore your 1 thing to do today? Eat your fruits and veggies! Try increasing your fruit and veggie intake by just one serving a day. JUST DO IT!
