Summer is a time to immerse yourself in the warm weather, relax and enjoy activities outside in the sun. It’s a time to compensate for the lack of Vitamin D during the cold and dreary winter months. So make sure you get outside and soak up the sun while you can! Here are 5 summer activities that are completely stress-free!
1. Go for a hike
What better way to enjoy the fresh air and warm weather than going for a hike? There are many scenic nature trails in Toronto (or very close to) where you can spend some much needed time in the sun. Exercise, especially outdoors, is not only great for your body but also your mind! Not sure where to start? Here are a couple trails: The Finch Meander Trail located in the East end of Toronto, the Don Valley Trails which offers 11 km to explore and High Park right in the centre of Toronto.
2. Hit up a local food festival
Food festivals are a great way to try out different kinds of cuisines from all over the world and there are plenty to attend in Toronto this summer! One food festival that features renowned chefs and some of the city’s best food dishes is starting on Sunday, July 9th and is called TO food fest. Admission is completely free but make sure to bring cash because the vendors are cash only. These outdoor events are great to attend because its a chance to meet new people, try different cuisines, enjoy the warm weather and immerse yourself in different cultures from all over the world.
3. Drive-in movie theatre
Drive-In movie theatres are something everyone should get to do at least once in their life and it is definitely a summer activity! Roll down your windows, feel the cool breeze and relax with a great movie and good company. Distract yourself from your work or family stresses with a motion picture under the stars.
4. Have a picnic
Whether planning a romantic day with a loved one or just hanging out with friends, a picnic is a great way to save some money and also enjoy your surroundings. Stressed about spending too much money? Head out with a classier version of a “lunch bag” by grabbing some outdoor friendly food, drinks and a blanket. There’s nothing more de-stressing than lying in a park, enjoying the sun and snacking on your leftovers.
5. Visit an outdoor patio
Is there a more ideal summer activity than heading over to an outdoor patio for drinks with friends on a summer night? For those of you with anxiety, you may feel that going out downtown to a club/bar is too stressful of a situation to put yourself in. However, not to fear because this is a fun and stress-free alternative to going out to a bar. Invite some friends and head uptown 0n a warm evening to share some snacks at any outdoor patio downtown. Good music, good food and good weather are sure to put yourself in a great mood! A couple of my favourite spots to go to during the summer time are: El Catrin, Bar Raval and Hemingway’s.
